Imlay family

/ˈɪmleɪ/ (say 'imlay)

noun three brothers noted for having pioneered the area between Bega and Twofold Bay in south-eastern NSW.
1. Peter, 1787–1881, farmer and pioneer of the whaling industry at Twofold Bay.
2. George, 1795–1846, surgeon, farmer and pioneer whaler.
3. Alexander, 1801–47, army surgeon, farmer, pioneer whaler and explorer; led an expedition from Adelaide, SA to the mouth of the Murray River in the late 1830s.
